I am pleased to announce that Ugly Anne has been sold and will begin a new career as a scenic cruise boat leaving from Mackinaw City, Michigan on Lake Huron, later this spring. The owner-operator is Chris West, Chris is from that part of Michigan and is looking forward to running his own cruise business. Ugly Anne was originally built for scenic lobstering cruises along Ogunquit’s shores during the summer months, and commercial fishing duties in the winter, so she is well suited to her new career.


I want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years, Ugly Anne was launched in June of 1976 and has operated as a passenger carrying vessel throughout those 35 years. My late husband Ken Young was the full time Captain most of those years until 1996, the last year he worked the boat. That season, he was 77 years old, he did not have a back up captain and he missed one and a half days between Father’s Day and Labor Day due to weather. Ken was a superior fisherman, he had an instinct and he had his spots. He learned how to fish before there were electronics, and between lobstering and fishing, he knew the bottom better than most. Before electronics, fishing was done with land marks, and Ken had his favorite spots, whether it was lobstering or deep sea fishing. 


I also want to thank all the crew over the years, I never thought I would run the business as long as I did and could not have done it without them. I cannot count the number of people Ugly Anne has carried, but I can count on one hand the number of injuries suffered on the boat, I credit the crew, throughout the years for that record. I will miss seeing that big red boat at the head of the harbor in Perkins Cove, but I am happy that she will continue to be a big red boat and Ugly Anne on Lake Huron.
